Megan Anna Rapinoe grew up in Redding, California. She was born there on the 5th of July 1985. She first began playing soccer at a early age, and honed her abilities throughout her teenage years. Rachael's fraternal twin Megan Rapinoe attended University of Portland. Megan Rapinoe, a member of the team of soccer at the college, was one of the leading scorers of women's collegiate soccer throughout the United States. Her knee injury, however she was forced to sit out a portion of her sophomore and junior seasons. Then she returned to full-time soccer in her senior year and began all the games that season. She received a bachelor of sociology degree from University of Portland. Rapinoe began her soccer career in 2009, when she was drafted by the Chicago Illinois Red Stars, an upcoming Women's Professional Soccer WPS League team, signed Rapinoe. She was a part of the league until the end of 2010, when it was disbanded. Rapinoe relocated from Boca Raton Florida after spending just a couple of weeks playing for Philadelphia Pennsylvania Independence. After just eight games the Rapinoe scored two goals and helped the MagicJack finish third in that league. The magicJack was disbanded at the end of 2011 and in the WPS ended up closing in early 2012. Rapinoe was part of Sydney Football Club FC in the Australian W-League for a couple games before she returned back to America. Next, she played with The Seattle Washington Sounders Women (now the Sound FC). Rapinoe spent the 2013 soccer season in France. She was a member of Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that was created following the dissolution of WPS. Rapinoe was soon a top scorer for the team and was eventually named captain. She was on the 2012 U.S. Olympic women's soccer team, which played in London England. Rapinoe was a key player in the gold-medal winning team in the London 2012 Olympics. Rapinoe had several assists and scored goals that helped winning matches. Rapinoe was a participant in her 2nd Olympics, in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. In Rio the U.S. team was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Rapinoe first participated in her first FIFA Women's World Cup in the year 2011. Her contributions helped her team U.S. team win consecutive Women's World Cup championships in 2015 and 2019. The year after, she was named cocaptain. Two goals by Rapinoe's were a part of a 4-3 United States victory against Australia during the Olympics of 2020 in Tokyo. Japan, however, was delayed to 2021 until the COVID-19 pandemic had passed.
